Section through Romantic Franconia: Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Ansbach – Cadolzburg – Nuremberg. A cycling tour to castles and palaces worth seeing. Bavarian Cycling Network

The Burgenstraße runs from Mannheim to Bayreuth and connects 60 castles and palaces over a distance of 780 kilometers.
Here you can see the section of the cycling route that runs through Romantic Franconia. Starting in Roth am See, just before the state border between Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the route heads toward Rothenburg ob der Tauber, bringing you to one of the tour’s major highlights.
From Rothenburg ob der Tauber , the first section climbs steeply up to the Frankenhöhe. The bike tour winds through forests, meadows, fields, and charming little villages on its way to Hohenzollernburg Colmberg. The castle is privately owned and houses a hotel with a beer garden and restaurant. The short climb is worth it just for the great view and a visit to the castle grounds. Via Lehrberg, the bike tour leads to the Hohenzollern Residence in Ansbach. The palace and the palace garden are definitely worth seeing. You should set aside some time for Ansbach, as a stroll through the charming old town is a lovely change of pace. The route continues along the Rezat River to Lichtenau, where the imposing fortress is worth a stop. Via small country roads, you’ll reach the little minstrel town of Wolframs-Eschenbach, home to the Minstrel Museum and beautiful half-timbered houses. The bike tour then continues on to Windsbach.  After a stretch through the Franconian Lake District, the bike route returns to Romantic Franconia. From Stein—home to the Faber-Castell Castle—through Oberasbach, follow the Biber River and turn off in Ammerndorf toward Cadolzburg. The castle museum at Cadolzburg is the highlight of the tour. You should definitely take the time to stop here. The next destination is Langenzenn, where the beautiful monastery courtyard and the old town are worth seeing, before reaching the Imperial Castle in Nuremberg.
The Burgenstraße bike path is part of the Bavarian Cycling Network.
